General Overview. At the end of 80ies of the XX century the government of Malta placed the development of offshore business sectors at the centre of the jurisdiction’s development strategy with the aim to attract international investors and entrepreneurs to Malta.  Favourable taxation regime in combination with comparatively fast and simple bureaucratic procedures made Malta an attractive destination for offshore business purposes. As Malta entered the European Union in 2004, it had to amend its legislations and rules, according to the EU authorities’ requests. International Holding Company type of corporate entity is often established in Malta for offshore holding company purposes.  Due to Maltese double taxation treaties network and favourable taxation regime, it is an attractive offshore jurisdiction for a holding company formation and management.

Online Lotteries. At present Malta is the most well regulated, the most effective and well reputed offshore jurisdiction for establishing and managing online lottery business. The authorities welcome this type of business. A license must be obtained by submitting all the requested documents and a comprehensive Business Plan. This is a high standing and a cost effective jurisdiction for the lottery business purposes.

Shipping Registry. Malta has ratified main international maritime conventions. All types of vessels of any age may be registered in Malta. Efficient and cost-effective registration procedures make Malta one of the world’s largest shipping registries.
